In late 2009, half a dozen Christian homeschooling families from North Texas began discussions and planning for a homeschooling encampment similar to Roundhouse (which currently occurs each year in Flat Rock, North Carolina). Several of our members had visited Roundhouse in past years, but we found that the costs for continuing to make the trip eastward were prohibitive for many homeschooling families in our area. With these things in mind, we decided to host a separate encampment in “our” area of the country. Based upon location, we chose the western theme of “Roundup”—a gathering from various places of those who do not normally get to enjoy one another’s company. Roundup is designed to promote fellowship, to encourage, and to strengthen the efforts of those brave brothers and sisters in Christ who have chosen an unconventional education for their children. As Christians we have been called out to be “…a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people” (1 Peter 2:9, NKJV). As homeschoolers we strive to train our children so that God will always be their greatest influence, not the world (Proverbs 22:6). At Roundup we promote meeting and bonding with those not only of “like precious faith” (2 Peter 1:1), but those who also understand the “different” and sometimes challenging ways we live as Christian homeschoolers. It is our wish that you and any Christian homeschooling families you know will be able to join us this year for a few days of fellowship and fun. Please spread the word! Roundup will be here before you know it, so check things out and be ready to send in your registration before the deadline. We hope to see you at Pettijohn Springs—have a safe trip! |
